Welcome to my first addition of Music Crush Monday! Every Monday I will review an album of different genres of music for your listening pleasure! I will give a brief description of the artist and the album along with my opinion on the music. I will also rate the album on a scale of 1-10.

A little backstory: I’ve been into music since I was a child. In my mind, growing up, I always thought I would be a music superstar! Seriously! I was sure that I would be doing something in entertainment. However, I got a taste of Hollywood at the tender young age of 21 and decided that wasn’t for me. But my love for the craft is just as strong and music is an integral part of my every day life. I’m a serious Musicophile. I also happen to think I have great taste in music! *Pats self on the back* I love music in just about EVERY genre, so I’ll try and be diverse in my reviews!

So without further ado, the first album review is WAR & LEISURE by MIGUEL.

If you are not familiar with this artist, he is an American singer, songwriter, actor and record producer whose mostly known for the hit song that debuted back in 2010 called “All I want is You”. I believe he is categorized as an R&B singer BUT his sound is very unique and other worldly in my opinion! He goes from an R&B, neo soul sound to an alternative soul rock type of sound. It’s quite artistic! Some of his R&B audience may wane a little with keeping their interest in his music due to the fact that he refuses to stay in the “hip-hop/R&B box”. He’s certainly a multi-dimensional artist!  His most artistic album to date in my opinion is ‘Wildheart’ which debuted in 2015. It’s also my favorite by Miguel.

In this new album ‘War & Leisure’, it definitely leans more on the R&B/hip-hop sound, which is more than cool because hip-hop is definitely trending heavily right now. He also has a few big name features including J. Cole, Rick Ross, and Travis Scott. The tracks that are in heavy rotation in my playlist are “Sky Walker” ft. Travis Scott and “Wolf”. They honestly have two completely different sounds that are brilliantly produced and executed. The lyrics in “Wolf” are quite captivating and sinister! “Sky Walker” has a smooth hip-hop sound that you can turn the bass up in the car or on your sound system and vibe out to. It’s currently my ‘screw my haters’ anthem for the year! (This could change, stay tuned) Because this album is a good smooth listen from beginning to end, I highly recommend it!

I GIVE WAR AND LEISURE by MIGUEL a 9 out of 10! Enjoy it, give it a listen and comment below! Let me and everyone else know what you think of the album!! See you next week!

  1. I gave it a listen because of you. I like to live life thru an album, walk in their shoes. And in this case it’s so relatable because I feel like Miguel talks about shoes I already own that I wear so often. One of my favorite songs is ‘Told you so’. He keeps it so real and reminds the listener that the world and all it offers has a price to pay. He says, “Im gonna show you… I dont want to control you, I wanna set you free, just come with me.” I feel like this so much, I even recently wrote a post about it. With my daughters and sometimes even in my relationship. It’s like, I love you I just want you to know what’s out here. Ive learned the hard way and I don’t want them to have regrets. If you still choose a path I disagree with I’m ok as long as you knew ‘that every pleasure has a price”. Inspired by this track and album, I wanted to ask you and your readers, when was the last time you said “I told you so,” and what happened?

    • Wow! I’m glad you listened I think this album was more than worth it! And yes I have definitely had literally and figuratively tell people I told you so. It usually ends up bad. But thanks for your comment and see you next week!
