Music Crush Monday! Camila Cabello

“Havana Oo Na Na…” Do you like that song? Me too! This hit single ‘Havana’ from Camila Cabello made me want to check out her new album that was just released this month. Welcome to this weeks addition of Music Crush Monday where I give you my review on the latest in music for your listening pleasure!

This weeks review is on ‘Camila’ by Camila Cabello camila

Camila Cabello is a Cuban American singer and songwriter that got her start in the popular girl group Fifth Harmony in 2012, but left to pursue her solo career in 2016. Her solo music is similar to her previous work with the girl group, primarily sticking to the pop genre. She released the single ‘Havana’ in 2017 and it immediately was a hit!

Her solo project ‘Camila’ was released this year 2018 and I’ve got to say it’s not bad for a pop album! I know what you’re thinking, what’s wrong with pop? Nothing is wrong with pop per se, it just tends to not have much substance to it and generally doesn’t make you think or feel anything, in my opinion! Anyhow I think Cabello did a decent job with her debut album. I think it showcases her talent as well her depth as an artist. I believe she will develop even farther with the level of talent she has. This album is probably mid level for her. She’ll continue to grow. My favorite tracks on the album are ‘All These Years’ and ‘Real Friends’. A little similar in sound for these tracks but to me these are the songs that really show that there is more to Camila than her typical pop sound.

As far as the sound itself, you’ll get a taste of her Cuban roots mixed with a lot of pop a little EDM and a sprinkle of R&B. The lyrical content is mediocre at best, that being said I get the inclination that she can get deeper than the elementary word play she displays in this first album. I look forward to that. The production quality is very well done, although not complex. The album doesn’t sound redundant or one-dimensional. But again, you’ll get the same thing you get from most pop albums, it doesn’t exactly MOVE you. Her music definitely makes you bob your head and dance in your seat or at the club, but you won’t be pondering this music over tea. Even still I look forward to her work in the future, she’s quite talented. Plus she’s undeniably gorgeous!

I give ‘Camila’ by Camila Cabello a 7 out of 10!
